Event Description:
India holds a heritage of magnificent buildings lasting through decades! Have you ever wondered what were the materials used for their construction and how much they cost? Concrete Fair 2020 brings you ‘CONtractor’, an event based on Estimation and Costing. It comprises of 3 rounds of competition to test your estimation skills. The primary motive of this event is to optimise the material usage to get the most effective estimate for the construction of the plan provided, without compromising the serviceability of the building.
Team size: Maximum of 2 members
Date of conduction: 15th-16th October
Prequisites
Basic knowledge on:
- Estimation and Costing of structures
- Building construction materials and planning
- Area and volume calculation
- Bar bending schedule
Participants
- A team of maximum 2 members from the same college
- Any number of teams can participate from the same college
- Engineering students from any department can participate
Round 1 : [ONLINE QUIZ: Total = 15 points]
- No. of questions = 15 MCQs [1 point each]
- Time allotted: 20 minutes
- The number of teams qualifying to the next round will be decided on the day of the event
Round 2 : [ONLINE QUIZ: 40 points]
- QUESTIONS: 40% MCQ and 60% data entry
- No. of questions = 15
- Time allotted: 40 minutes
- Points allotted for every question will be 2, 3 and 4 depending on the level of difficulty of the questions
- Top 5 groups will be selected for the Final round
Round 3 : FINAL ROUND
- A plan along with its cross-section will be given with a range of materials which can be used, along with the Codal requirements and material description, to determine sub-structural and super-structural units
- Using the best fit material, an effective cost and estimation has to be determined for the plan
- The participants have to justify with reasons for their choice of materials selected
- Time allotted: 1 hour 30 minutes
- Any software (like MATLAB, MS Excel) can be used if necessary
Rules and Regulations:
- Copying from other teams is not encouraged
- The quizzes can be submitted only ONCE
- The decision of the judge is final
- The final results will be announced along with the other events

Points Distribution for Round 2
- For every 2% error in the answer, 5% of the marks will be deducted from the maximum marks of the question
- Maximum error in every answer is limited to 10%
ROUND 3:
Priority for judgement:
1. Accuracy
2. Material & Cost efficiency
